The Seymour Unicorn design is based on the unicorn associated with Jane Seymour, the third wife of King Henry VIII Tudor. In heraldry, the unicorn symbolised purity, nobility and fertility. The theme of fertility had special importance in the Tudor context, as the continuation of the dynasty depended on the birth of a male heir. On the coin, the unicorn is depicted as a powerful mythical beast with a shield, referring to the Seymour family and the royal heritage of the Tudor era.

The The Royal Tudor Beasts series is dedicated to ten heraldic beasts associated with King Henry VIII Tudor and his third wife, Jane Seymour. The series is inspired by the stone heraldic beasts at the Moat Bridge of Hampton Court Palace.
