Gold bullion coin 1 Oz (31.1 g) The Royal Tudor Beasts Bull of Clarence 2023 was issued by the British Royal Mint, The Royal Mint, as part of the prestigious The Royal Tudor Beasts series. The coin is struck from fine gold with a purity of 999.9/1000 to bullion standard and contains one troy ounce of gold. The The Bull of Clarence design represents the fourth coin in the ten-coin The Royal Tudor Beasts series. This issue is also notable as the first coin in the collection to feature the official coinage portrait of King Charles III, designed by Martin Jennings.
The Bull of Clarence design represents strength, power and wealth. The heraldic bull was associated with the House of York and is one of the important beasts chosen by Henry VIII to flank the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace. The bull’s shield bears the Tudor Rose, a symbol of the union between the Houses of Lancaster and York, referring to dynastic unity and the consolidation of Tudor power.
The The Royal Tudor Beasts series was created by The Royal Mint in collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces. It is dedicated to ten heraldic beasts associated with King Henry VIII Tudor and his third wife, Jane Seymour. Each coin commemorates an important heraldic symbol of the Tudor era and combines historic design, collectible appeal and the investment value of gold.
